Your system, built by Jami Ojala.

Kolosseum is Jami Ojala's software studio in Espoo, Finland. We build operational systems for companies and organisations without their own development team.

Jami Ojala

I was elected Vice President of the international federation IFM-SEI in the middle of a crisis, and I have applied for and reported on public grants. Before that I resolved complex claims at IKEA. I build systems on that understanding of how money, decisions and responsibility actually move through an organisation, which is why every project starts from how the work is actually done.

I build with AI agents: they write and test code, while I decide the architecture and answer for the result. That is how a small studio delivers what a team would. When a project needs a specialist, the role is agreed in the scope, and overall responsibility for the delivery stays with Kolosseum.

Principles

The operation first. Then the code.

Software fails when it is built from a feature list instead of the real work. We put business logic, data and interface decisions on the same table and own the result.

  1. Understand the operation first

We do not start from a feature list. We start from how the work is actually done, where information moves and where decisions are made. Those are exactly the details conventional specifications skip, and they decide whether the system delivers real value.

  2. Engineer the whole

Business rules, data models and user experience are built as one system. We choose the technology for the problem and test the result against real use.

  3. Your code, your decisions

Technical decisions are written down, and the code is always handed over to you. Another developer can carry on whenever you choose.

About

From operational need to production system.

Five steps, one line of responsibility. Understanding, definition, build and rollout stay connected, so nothing gets lost between phases.

  1. Understand

Start from the people, the current way of working and the result that matters. Surface constraints and unknowns before they become expensive.

  2. Define

Agree the scope, the decisions that need an owner and how the delivery will be verified. Build a prototype or run a focused technical assessment when the risk calls for it.

  3. Build

Ship in visible increments. Review the experience, the business rules and the implementation together, always in working software.

  4. Introduce

Test the critical journeys end to end, prepare the users and hand over a system your team can run.

  5. Improve

Agree further development and support around what the system needs next.

Quality is built in.

Checks are sized to the system and its risks. We agree what must work, test the critical paths and keep open decisions on the table until someone owns them.

  1. 01End-to-end tests on real journeys and the exceptions that matter.
  2. 02Explicit access boundaries and test data fit for purpose.
  3. 03Documented technical decisions and operating guidance your team can use.
  4. 04Evals for AI outputs and human-in-the-loop checkpoints where accountability requires them.

A clear next step after handover.

Maintenance, improvements and support are scoped separately. Responsibilities, coverage and response times are written into the agreement, so nobody has to guess what happens next.
